The student team from Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences won the 2011 American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Clinical Pharmacy Challenge on October 17.
Campbell participated in the challenge with 83 other student teams from pharmacy schools throughout the United States. Team members Clayton Moore, Karyn Fabo and Erin Dickert advanced through four preliminary online rounds and live quarterfinal and semifinal matches on October 15-17 at ACCP’s Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The final match was a live competition against the University of Tennessee and Campbell won with a score of 3,200 to 1,750.
All three students on Campbell’s team received a $500 cash prize, commemorative plaque and the honor of bringing the championship trophy home to Buies Creek.
During each round of the competition, student teams answered questions in three segments. In the trivia/lightning category, students answered items on pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacy history and biostatistics. The clinical case segment challenged students with five multiple choice questions based on a pediatric clinical case vignette. During the Jeopardy-style segment, students answered questions of varying point values in five predetermined categories.
