Campbell’s Fighting Camel football field named for Sunset Beach entrepreneur

Buies Creek, N.C.-Campbell University has announced its football field will be named for Sunset Beach real estate developer Edward M. Gore. Gore and his wife Dinah have been friends and supporters of Campbell University for many years.

A 1952 graduate of Campbell College, Gore has served his alma mater in many capacities. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees and chairman of the Campbell University Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising and managing private support for the university. In 2007, Ed and Dinah Gore received the Honorary Doctor of Laws for their outstanding civic and professional contributions. They were again honored in 2008 at the dedication of Campbell’s new John W. Pope Convocation Center, whose arena is named in memory of the Gores’ son Gilbert Craig Gore. In addition, Campbell’s Center for Servant Leadership bears the Gore name. Established in 2008, the center promotes and encourages the servant leadership role in the community and on campus through recognition and support.

“Ed and Dinah Gore love Campbell and all that the university stands for,” said President Jerry M. Wallace. “They credit Campbell with providing Ed a solid education that has served him well. Hereafter, the football field will be known as Ed Gore Field.”

After graduating from Campbell in 1952, Ed Gore went on to earn a degree in business from East Carolina University. He served in the U.S. Air Force and married his wife Dinah in 1959. Subsequently the Gores joined Ed’s father Mannon C. Gore, who founded Sunset Beach, in his real estate development business. The Gores are among the founding families of the Sea Trail Corporation resort community.
