For many students, going away to college is a season of firsts. Campbell University is hoping to ease the transition for students with new renovations to several residence halls.
Construction crews have spent the summer making substantial upgrades to Strickland, Hedgpeth and Sauls Halls on the Buies Creek campus. The halls have been outfitted with new thermal windows, fresh paint and crown moulding, new carpeting, lighting fixtures, custom-built furniture and student lounge areas.
Dr. Dennis Bazemore, Vice President for Student Life, says the renovations will enhance the overall student life experience for residential students, particularly freshmen.
“That connection that occurs while living on campus is not experienced when living away,” said Bazemore. “We hope these renovations will allow students to feel at home and acclimate to life here at Campbell.”
This year, the Office of Campus Life has designated several residence halls — Strickland, Hedgpeth, Bryan, Day, Murray, Kitchin and Baldwin — exclusively for freshmen. Campus Life staff members have planned extensive social and educational programming to enhance their campus life experience, from craft nights and ice cream socials to tips on money management.
“The freshmen-specific residence halls provide greater opportunities to connect with freshmen very early on,” said Bazemore. “Through planned programming, we hope to be able to better retain those students.”
