Campbell University’s Kappa Psi chapter will celebrate its 25th anniversary this weekend during the pharmacy fraternity’s regional meeting in Buies Creek. Nearly 200 guests are expected to attend.
“We have members coming from pharmacy schools all over the Atlantic Province,” said Jordan Ballou, regent of Campbell’s Kappa Psi chapter and second-year pharmacy student. “A group of Campbell alumni are also attending the meeting to help us celebrate.”
The Delta Lambda chapter was selected as this year’s host for Kappa Psi’s southeast regional meeting because of its 25 year milestone.
“We don’t actually turn 25 until April, but we’re really excited to celebrate Delta Lamdba, and show the other chapters who we are,” Ballou said.
During the meeting, Delta Lambda’s class composites from the last 25 years will be set out. Past awards from regional and national meetings will also be on display, as well as a slideshow put together by the chapter’s historian. Following the banquet dinner on Saturday, Delta Lamdba is hosting a casino night which is a chapter tradition.
“We wanted to host a casino night because it is something we’ve always done as a rush event,” Ballou said. “It’s a lot of fun. I know it was my favorite rush when I was going through it myself as a new member.”
Established on April 23, 1988, Kappa Psi’s Delta Lambda chapter has played a large role in student life at Campbell. The fraternity has won numerous regional and national awards for service projects over its 25-year history, and it has been a source of professional development and long-lasting friendships for many pharmacy students.
“For me, Kappa Psi membership is for life,” said Ballou. “There’s an underlying connection among members here at Campbell, at other schools and with brothers who have graduated. It’s been a very big deal for me, and I’m excited to be a part of our chapter’s 25th anniversary.”
