Campbell University’s 2006 Pastors School, an annual retreat and renewal opportunity for pastors, will feature three dynamic preachers, Dr. James A. Forbes, Jr., senior minister of The Riverside Church in New York; pastor and author Dr. Charles Poole, of the LifeShare Foundation; and Dr. Gardner C. Taylor, Pastor Emeritus of Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. Pastors School is being held July17-20. Admission is free and open to the public for evening worship services.Named one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world by “Newsweek” magazine,” Dr. James A. Forbes is pastor of the 2,400-member Riverside Church, an interdenominational, interracial and international church built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. The church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches and the United Church of Christ. Forbes is the first African-American to serve as senior minister of the largest multi-cultural congregation in the nation. An ordained minister in the American Baptist Churches and the original United Holy Church of America, Forbes is known as “the preacher’s preacher” because of his extensive preaching career and charismatic style. He was the Brown and Sockman Associate Professor of Preaching at Union Theological Seminary in New York and served as Union’s first Joe R. Engle Professor of Preaching. In addition Forbes serves on the core teaching staff at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York. He will speak at the Pastors School opening worship service on Monday, July 17, at 7 p.m., in Scott Concert Hall.Dr. Charles E. Poole of the LifeShare Foundation, a non-profit, private foundation designed to benefit children, is the author of three books and has served as a visiting preacher and lecturer on many campuses, including Mercer, Furman and Duke universities among others. He is a graduate of Mercer University and the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Poole will speak on patterns in the Gospel of Matthew, Tuesday, July 18, at the 7 p.m. worship service in Scott Concert Hall.Dr. Gardner C. Taylor, Pastor Emeritus of Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., will be the featured speaker on Wednesday, June 19, at 7 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall. Taylor was pastor of Concord Baptist from 1948-1990. The church has over 9,000 members and operates an elementary school, a nursing home, a clothing exchange and a senior residence. Taylor has addressed the Baptist World Alliance at conferences in Copenhagen, Cleveland, Ohio, London and Tokyo. In 2000 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by President Bill Clinton.”Pastors School has always been a good experience with skilled teaching,” said Campus Minister Terry-Michael Newell. “We’re especially excited this year to have Drs.
