Buies Creek, N.C.—One hundred and twenty instruments and a spirited program lineup make for a memorable night of music when Campbell University presents the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony in concert, Thursday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. The concert will take place in the acoustically enhanced Scott Concert Hall of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. Admission if free and open to the public.
From the opening fanfare to the last series of works based on lively dance genres such as folk, Latin and American barn dance, audiences will enjoy the power and authority of the 81-member Wind Ensemble and the 46-member Wind Symphony.
“The concert contains a variety of musical styles sure to please everyone’s musical taste,” said Dr. Charles Dwayne Wilson, director of Bands and Instrumental Studies for Campbell.
One of the works, “Cenotaph,” performed by the Wind Ensemble during the first half of the concert, is composed by Jack Stamp, former director of Bands at Campbell. It is the concert’s opening fanfare and features the rousing percussion section.
The concert’s second half is based on dance–European folk dance, Latin dance, American folk dance and American barn dance, Wilson said. Many of the works will be conducted by students who study conducting with Wilson.
