Dr. Richard Henry Capps, of Huntersville, N.C., has been elected to the Campbell University Board of Trustees. Capps, a physician, is associated with Lakeside Family Practice in Cornelius, N.C., where he serves as director of Urgent Care and member of the board of directors. Capps also serves as a physician leader at Lake Norman Free Clinic and as a team doctor for local high school football games.Graduating summa cum laude from Campbell University in 1995, Capps received a full scholarship to East Carolina’s Brody School of Medicine. He completed his studies at the Duke University medical program at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, N.C.Capps currently serves on the board of directors of Campbell’s National Alumni Association. In addition, he and wife Jennifer have established a scholarship to aid pre-med students at Campbell. While attending Campbell, Capps received the Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship award and the prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan award. He was a member of several honor societies including Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Eta Sigma, Epsilon Pi Eta and the Pre Medical/Allied Health Honor Society.Capps delivered the commencement address at the December 2006 graduation ceremony, where he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Campbell University.The Capps are the parents of a daughter. They are expecting another child in April.
