RALEIGH, N.C. – The Campbell Law Career Center and Black Law Student Association (BLSA) partnered to host a speed networking event at the law school on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Participating attorneys included representatives from Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog, Parker Poe, DLA Piper, Kilpatrick Stockton, Duke Energy, GlaxoSmithKline, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the N.C. Department of Public Safety, Moore Van Allen and Quintiles.
The two-part evening included a speed networking exercise and a reception for all attendees. Students were allotted six minutes to introduce themselves and engage in conversation with professional participants and employer representatives, with the reception following after each student had visited with each employer.
“The Career Center enjoyed partnering with BLSA on the networking event,” said Campbell Law Career Center Director Julie Beavers. “We believe it is critical for law students to feel comfortable with the art of professional conversation. Last night’s event generated valuable dialogue with employers and certainly elevated the confidence of the participating students.”
Second-year student and BLSA Vice President Terry Brown devised the concept for the event, and worked with the Campbell Law Career Center to orchestrate the evening.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the success of this event,” said Brown. “This was a fantastic opportunity for students to meet and learn from successful attorneys in the area. All students and employers involved found the event useful and were enthusiastic about it. BLSA looks forward to growing this program in the future.“
