Career Center Holds Discussion on In-House Counsel

RALEIGH, N.C. –The Campbell Law School Career & Professional Development Center hosted members of the Association of Corporate Counsel Research Area Chapter (ACC-RTA) for a panel discussion on career perspectives from in-house counsel members on Tuesday, March 20.

Panelists included Ken Hammer of Dataflux | a SAS company, Brian Holland of Global Knowledge, Andrew Klein of The Pantry, Hunter Stamey of Umicore, and ACC-RTA Treasurer Marvin Genzer.

With each panelist owning significant experience as the general counsel for an organization, the group discussed the career path needed to work as an in-house counsel member. In addition, the panelists touched on the importance of law students and new associates building their communication skills and using those skills to communicate legal issues to work partners and administrators. The group also touched on the value of networking and exchanging information.

“The annual Corporate Counsel Program draws a substantial number of our law students each year,” said Campbell Law Career Services & Professional Development Center Director Julie Beavers. “Today’s program was no different.

“Our students are eager to learn from seasoned legal professionals who provide valuable insight into the key skills young lawyers need to offer potential employers. The audience walked away from the program understanding that industry knowledge, understanding the business, problem solving and effective communication skills are key areas of development for future employment consideration in corporate America.”
