Buies Creek, N.C.-Classical guitar music doesn’t have to be stuffy. It can be lighthearted and fun as the Carolina String Duo, Kevin Dollar and Carey Harwood, prove when they perform in concert at Campbell University on Thursday, March 25, at 8 p.m. in the Scott Concert Hall of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. The concert is part of the Artist Performance Series, free concerts that bring top-notch performers to Campbell several times a year.
The Carolina String Duo’s performance has been described as a classical concert with a “variety show sensibility,” in that the program spans several music genres and generations of performers. Both members of the Duo, professors of music at Elon University, bring their own style and flavor to the program. Dollar represents the more classical approach, playing the steel string, electric and gypsy jazz guitar, while Harwood, who is proficient on the lute, banjo and mandolin, enjoys playing less formal music.
The Duo has performed throughout the United States to excellent reviews.
