Campbell University’s recently launched nursing program officially begins accepting applications today, September 15. The application process is open to current second year students who have declared pre-nursing as their course of study. Accepted applicants will enroll in upper level coursework as part of the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) curriculum next fall.
“The opening of the BSN application cycle is another major step in assuring the vision on which the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing is established: Excellence – no less than the high standards of Campbell University and Meaningful Purpose – supportive of the CPHS mission of improving health outcomes for the rural and underserved population in NC,” said Nancy Duffy, DNP, director of nursing at Campbell University.
Per BSN standards, undergraduate students enroll in core curriculum coursework their freshman and sophomore years to meet the general education prerequisite for upper level nursing classes. Upon their sophomore year, students can apply to the nursing program to complete didactic and clinical coursework. Pre-Nursing students who are current sophomores and have met or will meet all general curriculum requirements are eligible to apply.
The inaugural BSN class will begin the curriculum in fall 2016 in the Tracey F. Smith Hall of Nursing & Health Sciences, which is currently under construction. The 72,000 square-foot building is anticipated to be completed next summer. The facility will house state-of-the-art labs, clinical skills spaces, open research space, and large classrooms and study areas; and will eventually house more than 320 students, sharing a campus with the Leon Levine Hall of Medical Sciences, which is home to more than 400 medical and physician assistant students.
About the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing: The Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing at Campbell University was established in 2014 as part of the university’s renowned College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Becoming the seventh health sciences program the College offers, the School of Nursing enrolled record numbers in its first semester of pre-nursing seminars. The N.C. Board of Nursing will re-survey Campbell’s nursing program in the spring of 2018, when the first nursing students are expected to graduate. At that time, the university is a candidate to receive full approval status. The School is approved to accept 50 students in the charter class.
