BUIES CREEK, North Carolina – The Campbell University Faculty Development and Research Committee awarded Charlotte Paolini DO, CAQ Geriatrics, Chair of Family Medicine at Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine, the 2016 D. P. Russ Jr. and Walter S. Jones Sr. Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence.
Dr. Paolini was nominated for the award by fellow medical school faculty who stated, “Dr. Paolini embodies the mission of Campbell University and has advanced the university through her excellence in teaching, dedication to service, and initiatives in health and wellness.”
“Words are completely inadequate to describe the value of Dr. Paolini,” said Julie Aldrich, second year medical student and previous co-director of the student run free clinic. “She is not only an outstanding physician, but an outstanding mentor and an invaluable educator. She is an advocate for every single patient and every single student she has contact with. She altruistically puts her patients, students, and student education before herself, every single time, without question. Never once has a student’s request for help been denied by Dr. Paolini. Regardless of the number of patients she seen that day, the number of hours she’s worked, or the number of lectures she has to give the following day, she has always made herself available for review sessions, mentoring sessions, or anytime students needed a little extra. She has, and continues to be, an invaluable asset to me and my classmates’ education, to the University, and to the medical profession as a whole. Her every action embodies what it means to be an outstanding educator.”
Dr. Paolini was presented with the award at the Campbell University Faculty and Staff Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Paolini. “I want to thank my colleagues and students for honoring me in this way. My ability to teach is a gift that I get to enjoy every day at CUSOM. What a blessing to be honored for something that I love to do!”
As Chair of Family Medicine at Campbell, Dr. Paolini is involved in clinical teaching for clinical skills, osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), and various clinical topics as needed. She is also responsible for working with clinical rotation healthcare facilities regarding third and fourth year family medicine clerkships and is developing the geriatrics 4th year clerkship. Dr. Paolini is part of the Campbell University Health Center physician staff and is a regular volunteer at the Campbell Community Care Clinic. She is on the Christian Medical and Dental Associations Board of Trustees and was recently appointed to the CMDA Commission on Human Trafficking. Before joining the Campbell medical school faculty, she worked at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
