Billy Woodard, who was named chairman of Campbell University’s Presidential Board of Advisors, likes what Campbell stands for. Woodard, of Star, N.C., is chairman and CEO of Fidelity Bancshares, Inc., a banking franchise with over 60 locations in central North Carolina. “I liked working with Campbell University from the beginning because I like what Campbell is doing for the economy of Harnett County and Eastern North Carolina and I’m impressed with the kind of education the university provides,” he said. Woodard added that by emphasizing Christian values and community service, Campbell prepares its students for happy, successful lives. “I’m proud to have a part in helping to make the university move forward,” Woodard said. “I believe I can help organize and move Campbell’s Advancement program ahead.” A banker for 45 years, Woodard worked for the Bank of Biscoe in Moore County when it merged with The Bank of Fuquay in 1970. When the bank’s name was changed to The Fidelity Bank, he became the new bank’s executive vice president and served as president from 1977 to 1997. Woodard earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1957 and completed a three-year program at the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University in 1965. He serves as treasurer of the North Carolina Community Foundation and is a charter member of the board of directors of the foundation. Woodard also served as mayor of the city of Biscoe. “The university is very fortunate to have Mr. Woodard lend his expertise and leadership skills to the distinguished Board of Presidential Advisors as its returning chairman,” said Campbell President Dr. Jerry M. Wallace. “His knowledge and understanding of banking and finance is enabling Campbell’s advancement in numerous arenas, most notably, the long awaited completion of the fund-raising activities for the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center.”
