BUIES CREEK — Campbell University’s Choral Society is collaborating with the University Choir for its spring concert, which will be held Sunday, April 13, at 4 p.m. in Butler Chapel.
Sponsored by the Royal Concert Series Endowment and the Stephens Memorial Recital Fund, the concert is free and open to the public. It’ll feature about 85 singers who will be accompanied by a chamber-sized orchestra of eight players.
They’ll present a newer extended work called “Requiem for the Living,” which is composed by Dan Forrest. According to Forrest’s website, “As of early 2014, within the first six months of publication, the ‘Requiem’ has already been performed across the U.S., including a performance in Carnegie Hall, and has already gone into its second printing.”
Philip Morrow, Campbell’s director of choral activities, is looking forward to the University Choir and Choral Society’s rendition of the arrangement. “It’s an uplifting, inspiring work, I think particularly for the believer but the music itself is just well-crafted and inspirational,” he said. “I think everyone will enjoy it.”
The 40-minute program will feature three soloists: seventh-grader Hayden Smith Campbell senior soprano Kendra Lisec and tenor John Daniecki. On the piano will be Ella Anne Holding, former artist-in-residence of the Campbell music department.
“I encourage folks to come out,” Morrow said.
