Praised as “an exceptionally musical and accomplished guitarist,” Nicholas Ciraldo is a leader among his generation of American classical guitarists. He comes to perform at Campbell University on Oct. 30, at 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall. The concert will feature selections from Antonio Jose, Leo Brouwer and Heitor Villa-Lobos. It is free and open to the public.Ciraldo, an avid chamber musician, has won several prestigious awards for solo competitions, including the Tredres-Locquemau International Guitar Competition in France, the MTNA Guitar Competition, the Gaetano Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Italy, and the Portland International Guitar Competition. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Indiana University, a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he received the Feeman Fellowship. Since 2005, Ciraldo has worked as assistant professor of guitar at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.Ciraldo, an active member of the arts community, has held positions as Artistic Director of the Boston Classical Guitar Society and as the Vice President of the Austin Classical Guitar Society. He is the founder of the Hammer/Nail Project, a mentoring program that links student composers with learned guitarists. Ciraldo also exercises his talents for art and teaching as the co-founder of the Quadrivium Guitar Quartet. The quartet recently performed throughout rural Kentucky, teaching and playing for over two thousand children in over forty schools.Currently, Ciraldo enjoys a busy concert schedule with his wife, flutist Rachel Taratoot Ciraldo.The concert is a presentation of Cape Fear Friends of the Fine Arts.
