Buies Creek – Miriam Mitchell Clark received Campbell University’s 2009 Alumni Service Award on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the university’s winter graduation ceremony. A 1951 alumna of Campbell College, Clark and her husband David have supported numerous scholarships and capital building campaigns at Campbell.
A resident of Elizabethtown, Mrs. Clark has been active in her community and church. She ministered to the sick through her work in the laboratory of Bladen Community Hospital and has volunteered her services in numerous organizations, including using her gardening skills in the local Garden Club. As an environmentalist, she has been a leader in the fight to protect the environment from the irresponsible use of land and water resources. In honor of her 40 plus years of teaching the women’s Bible study class at the Elizabethtown Baptist Church, the class was re-named the Miriam Clark Class.
As a Campbell alumna, Miriam’s love for Campbell is reflected in her husband’s service as a trustee and her daughter Mary Kay choosing to attend Campbell. The couple has three other children: Kemp Clark, Cindy Clark Carroll and Hope Clark Campbell and five grandchildren – Christian, Claire, Cybil, Cydney and Davie.
A total of 327 degrees were conferred for Campbell’s winter graduation, including 278 undergraduate degrees and 49 graduate degrees.
