Hannah McClellan ’14 has spent the past four years cheering on the Campbell football and basketball teams. Her focus will soon shift to cheering on the students in her classroom.
From the first time Hannah McCllelan set foot on Campbell University’s campus, she said felt constantly surrounded by people who made her feel genuinely cared for and important. “The people are just so nice,” she said. “That’s really the best way to put it.”
She has tried to return the favor with her involvement with the Campbell cheerleading squad for the past four years. She was also involved in numerous campus activities, including serving as a member of the Student Athletic Committee.
“I’m going to miss the people!” said McClellan, who began cheering when she was 7. “I’m going to miss my team and my friends. I made lasting friendships here.”
McClellan also has been a cheerleader of sorts in the classroom. She is an elementary education major who student taught in a second-grade classroom in Harnett County. She earlier had worked in a fifth-grade classroom. Both experiences reminded her why she chose to enter the field of education and emboldened her confidence in her choice. “They’re just so fun,” she said. “They’re quirky and funny and they just love to learn at that age. So I’m really excited about working with them.”
McClellan has gained her teacher licensure and will be looking for work as a teacher in her home state of Florida, where she is moving with her fiancé. “I’ve had my bumps along the way,” she said. “But my teachers have always tried to smooth them out for me.” —Rachel Davis
