Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences hosted its annual scholarship luncheon on Sat., Feb. 9, giving students the opportunity to thank the donors who help fund their education.
Donors provided over $240,000 in scholarships this year, giving financial assistance to more than 115 post-graduate students in the College’s pharmacy, physician assistant practice, pharmaceutical sciences and clinical research programs.
With over 300 guests in attendance, Chuemee Thao, president of the College’s Pharmacy Student Executive Board, shared how scholarships have made a difference in her education at Campbell.
“I always wanted to be a pharmacist, so when I told my parents—who came to the United States as refugees from Laos—that I had been accepted into pharmacy school, they were more than thrilled for the opportunity I was given and that they never had. But after putting three girls through undergrad and a fourth still in the middle of it, it was not feasible for them to support me again.
“Through your generosity, Campbell students should never feel alone through this journey,” she said. “It is your kindness that alleviates our burdens and reminds us about the family we have here at Campbell.”
Thao is a second-year pharmacy student and recipient of the Pharmfusion Professional Development Scholarship and Mae I. Danner Pharmacy Scholarship.
Over 125 scholarships were awarded at the luncheon, including six first-time scholarships:
- Carroll Pharmacy Annual Scholarship
- May Family Annual Scholarship
- Medley Family Annual Scholarship
- Physician Assistant Annual Faculty Scholarship
- Robert G. Shelton Pharmacy Scholarship
- Walgreens Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Award
