Buies Creek, N.C.—Designer purses, designer T-shirts, designer burgers? Campbell University and ARAMARK dining services asked, why not? And with the installation of new touch-screen technology that lets customers build their own burgers, designer burgers have become a reality at Campbell. The name of the new burger experience is Burger Studio, and it will open in the Oasis of the Wallace Student Center this August.
Using electronic touch-screen ordering kiosks, students, faculty and staff can design their burger, selecting Angus, chicken or veggie burgers and a variety of accompanimentsthat include 30 toppings, several cheeses and special sauces. The kiosks prompt each customer with the available choices, then visually create the order by building the sandwich piece by piece on the kiosk screen. All sandwiches are served on freshly baked Kaiser rolls. Side items include hand-cut fries and curly fries as well as healthy alternatives such as apple wedges and side salads. Burger Studio hours are Monday-Friday from 7 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Breakfast will also be available Monday through Friday.
“There is no doubt that burgers are one of the most beloved meals on campus,” said Allison Metcalf Woodard, District Marketing Manager for ARAMARK/Campbell University. “Our goal with Burger Studio is to inspire students’ creativity and individuality, creating a customized meal using touch-screen technology that is already part of our everyday lives.”
Burger Studio is the result of feedback from the creative minds of hundreds of students surveyed by ARAMARK, the same dining services company that serves Campbell. ARAMARK conducted on-line focus groups and sponsored chat rooms to capture student feedback about all elements of the Burger Studio brand, from conception to final delivery. The Burger Studio name was selected from more than 1,200 entries submitted in an online contest. Student “taste testers” reviewed all menu items under consideration to ensure that the type of burger, fries and buns would appeal to all students.
All Burger Studio locations are designed to be environmentally friendly using energy efficient equipment and lighting, bamboo countertops covered with laminate made from coffee beans, recycled fibers, biodegradable packaging made from 100 percent recycled materials, and take-out bags made of non-chlorinated pulp.
