Gregory Dedrick, PT, ScD, was recently named founding director of Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences' new doctor of physical therapy program. His responsibilities will include leading the development of the program, obtaining accreditation and overseeing faculty recruitment.
“Dr. Dedrick is highly respected in physical therapy education and understands the challenges of implementing a new degree program,” said Ron Maddox, PharmD, dean of Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and vice president of health programs. “We’re excited to welcome him to Campbell.”
Dedrick brings more than 15 years of clinical knowledge and over a decade of teaching and research experience to the position. He holds a BS in kinesiology from the University of North Texas, a master of physical therapy (MPT) from the University of Texas Medical Branch and a doctor of science in physical therapy (ScD) from Texas Tech University. He is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist and has completed his certification in orthopedic medicine and manual therapy of the spine and extremities through the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine-US (IAOM).
Most recently, Dedrick served as an associate professor ofphysical therapy at Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, he taught numerous physical therapy courses in both master’s and doctorate level programs as well as post-professional education. Dedrick assisted in the development of the doctor of physical therapy (DPT) program by creating content related to screening for medical conditions and imaging. He was extensively involved in revamping the MPT and DPT curriculum to improve licensure passage rates, served as a co-leader of the DPT development committee’s musculoskeletal content team and assisted with the program’s accreditation process.
Dedrick practiced physical therapy at the University Medical Centerin Lubbock, Texas from 1997 to 2003, where he has continued to work as a consultant during his time at Texas Tech. He has also served as a lead faculty instructor for the IAOM-US since 2004.
Campbell University will offer the new doctor of physical therapy degree through its College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. The three-year program will start during the spring or fall semester in 2014 with 24 seats available in the first class. The College will seek accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.
“I'm excited to serve as director of the new program,” Dedrick said, who will begin his position on July 2. “One of the reasons I was drawn to Campbell University is its unique position to provide students with inter-professional learning experiences. I believe this type of training will improve communication and respect among health care practitioners to ultimately provide better care for patients.”
Dedrick and his wife Kay are the proud parents of 10-month old twins, Kale and Kacie. They look forward to relocating to Buies Creek and interacting with the local community through service work, church activities and participating in Campbell events.
