Dean O’Mara delivers message at fourth-annual Thanksgiving Dinner

Campbell University 2016 Winter Commencement

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Dean Dr. Kevin O’Mara shared a heartfelt message as students, faculty and staff gathered for the fourth-annual Campbell Business Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 17. More than 150 students gathered to enjoy a meal that included turkey, dressing, potatoes, green beans and pecan pie. Tablecloths were designed by Sarah Roberson of The Redheaded Camel for students to write on and share their Thanksgiving wishes.

“Campbell has always been well known for its family-type atmosphere,” said senior healthcare management major Emily Drake. “Our Campbell Business Thanksgiving Dinner allows faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to enjoy each other's company outside of the classroom setting. Each department at Campbell University exists as its own family, and being part of Campbell Business makes me feel right at home.”

“The Campbell Business Thanksgiving Dinner tradition is a special tradition for us as a business school community,” said junior trust & wealth management major Grant Seger. “In times of so much disunity and conflict with current events around the country, it's great to see a community that is intentional about focusing on the positive aspects of our lives, what we can be thankful for, and come together and celebrate that. My favorite part of this event is the fact we were all able to all sit down and share a meal together. It might not seem like much but it is something of importance for us all to spend time in fellowship with one another, with our conversation looking at how blessed we are to be where we are, sharing this opportunity of a higher education with each other.”

“What I love about the Thanksgiving Dinner so much is that the whole business school is able to come together and take a break from the end of the semester stress,” said junior trust and wealth management major Sean Hall. “Students get to sit with their professors in a comfortable setting and mingle without worrying about all the other work they have to do. It's a very nice break for a busy month.”

“The Thanksgiving dinner embodies the family feel of our business school,” said sophomore trust and wealth management major Sarah Page. “We can join together each year to share some amazing food and fellowship with our Campbell family. This year I enjoyed Dean O'Mara's message because I felt like as he shared his story he became a part of the Campbell family and the Campbell story.”

Previous speakers at the annual event include North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Paul Newby and Campbell University President Dr. J. Bradley Creed.
