Dedication ceremony held for McLamb Environmental Science Center

Buies Creek –  Carlie C. McLamb and his wife Joyce opened their first store in Johnston County in1961.  Today, “Carlie C’s” remains a family owned business that operates 14 grocery stores in Harnett, Johnston and Cumberland Counties and the McLambs are respected members of the central North Carolina community.

On Wed., July 20, dozens of friends and family members joined Campbell University faculty and staff to celebrate the dedication of the Carlie C. and Joyce McLamb Environmental Science Center.

The building, which formerly housed the University’s laundry, contains four lab settings – two for life science, such as environmental science and two for physical sciences, including physics.  The Center also features new equipment for research in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry and physics.

Dr. Jerry Wallace, president of Campbell University, praised the McLambs for their willingness to support the renovation of the building.

“We are so proud of the Carlie C. and Joyce McLamb Environmental Science Center,” said Wallace. “All Campbell University students will benefit from this beautiful facility, particularly those students taking environmental science courses or physics.”

Dr. Mike Larsen, chair of the Biology department, said students are already using the labs as part of their course work.

“Campbell is a place where faith, learning and service are truly entwined,” said Larsen. “We want to encourage Christian stewardship of the environment through these facilities.”

In addition to their active role in the business landscape of central North Carolina, Carlie C. and Joyce McLamb are also involved in their community, sponsoring church and school fundraisers. They are active members of the Leslie Methodist Church.
