Distinguished New Hanover Osteopathic Physician to be Campbell commencement speaker

Buies Creek, N.C. – Dr. Barbara E. Walker, director of the Osteopathic Residence and Medical Education for the Osteopathic Internship programs at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, will deliver the spring commencement address at Campbell University. The ceremony is set for Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m. at the John W. Pope Convocation Center.

A pioneer in osteopathic medicine in North Carolina, Walker is a past president of the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association and a long-time member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the American Academy of Osteopathy.

Walker is a graduate of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and completed her residency at Womack Army Community Hospital. She completed a fellowship in Family Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill in June 1998. Her interests are obstetrics and integrating osteopathic manipulative medicine into full scope family medicine. Dr. Walker has been a member of American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Board of Trustees since 2007. She also serves as chair of the AOA’s Committee on Awards and vice chair of the Bureau of State and Affiliate Concerns.

Over 1,000 degrees are expected to be conferred during Campbell’s graduation services, May 13-14.
