BUIES CREEK – Campbell University Divinity School has created a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry Degree, available beginning this fall.
The MACM is a professional degree designed to prepare men and women for specialized, ordained or lay ministry. It will provide a foundation in the theological disciplines and specialized training in an area of specialized ministries.
“We are so pleased to offer this new degree,” said Divinity School Dean Dr. Andy Wakefield. “It will allow focused preparation for ministry that will be especially suited for and accessible to persons who may already be serving in churches, in lay ministry, and in other ministry contexts.”
Currently, the specialized training areas include Congregational Leadership, Youth Ministry, Teaching the Bible, Christian Education and Children’s Ministry. Additional specializations are already planned and will be developed as opportunities allow.
Forty-eight credit hours are required for completion of the degree.
“It will be an ideal degree to combine with other professional degrees or areas of expertise for someone who understands his or her calling in terms of bi-vocational ministry,” Wakefield said. “… whether that be in the church, on the mission field, serving as a lawyer, doctor, teacher, businessperson or wherever God may lead.”
The new MACM will serve a purpose similar to the Master of Arts in Christian Education that it is replacing but will offer a more flexible structure, one that more clearly allows students to focus not just on Christian education but in a variety of specialized ministries.
