Greensboro, N.C. –Donna Woolard, professor of Exercise Science and director of the Physical Education Teacher Education program at Campbell University, has been selected to serve as president of the North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance for 2007. The North Carolina Alliance, one of the state’s oldest professional associations, is dedicated to the advancement of research and education within the fields of athletics, health, physical education, recreation and dance. Its mission is to provide advocacy, professional development and unity for these related activities for students and professionals in order to enhance and promote the health of North Carolinians.A native of Washington, N.C., Woolard joined the Campbell faculty in 1994. Under her direction, the Physical Education Teacher Education program has received excellent ratings from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction ((NCDPI) and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Recognized as an expert in the professional preparation of physical education teachers, Woolard has been personally cited as an outstanding teacher educator by NCATE and NCDPI. Woolard has been named to Who’s Who in the South and Southeast, Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in the World.In May 1998, she was named Teacher of the Year by the Campbell University College of Arts and Sciences and was declared College University Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2000 by the North Carolina Physical Education Association. The North Carolina Alliance honored her with the 2003 Service Award and she was elected vice president of the Alliance in 2005.Since 2001, Woolard has been a consultant to the Educational Testing Service for Praxis II Physical Education assessments. In that role, she has participated in question development, test preparation and test review. Her work with ETS includes authoring the “Expert Advice” chapter in the Diagnostic Preparation program for Physical Education Content Knowledge exam and contributions to the Physical Education and Health Education Study Guide.A leader in instructional technology, Woolard has made numerous presentations at the state and national levels on using technology to aid student learning. She is an accomplished webmaster and is noted for making instructional interactive Web sites.She received bachelors and masters degrees from East Carolina University, beginning her career as a high school teacher and coach in Ahoskie, N.C. She left eastern North Carolina to pursue a doctorate at Middle Tennessee State University. Her career in higher education began as an assistant professor at Mars Hill College and Elizabeth City State University.
