Derek Webb will perform a free concert on Sunday, March 29 at 6 p.m. in Turner Auditorium at Campbell University. Former Caedmon’s Call member, Webb left the band in 2003 to embark on his solo career.
“I love music. I have grown up with music as a close confidant,” said Webb. “I believe in the power of music to move people. There’s something remarkable about the way a melody can soften someone to a new idea.”
His 2005 release Mockingbird earned positive reviews. Then in late 2006, he gave away over 80,000 free downloads of the album on-line in partnership with his label INO Records. Major music industry media wrote about this endeavor, and Webb saw his concert audiences double in several markets.
By daring to tackle difficult subjects like ethics, politics and personal integrity with disarming vulnerability, Webb turned more than a few heads in the music industry. He has released his fourth solo album The Ringing Bell. As the title suggests, this collection sounds clearly through the noise of the day, beckoning some and warning others.
“Come and hear him because his music stirs emotions and gives a different perspective than you may have already heard,” said Kelly Rhodes, intern of the Office of Campus Minister. “When you hear a song like Wedding Dress or A Savior on Capitol Hill you hear the deep insight that goes into his writing and you know there’s something different about him, something definitely worth listening to.”
