Dr. Abbey named new Lundy Chair

Campbell University 2016 Winter Commencement

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Dr. Boris Abbey has joined the Campbell Business faculty as the new Lundy Chair of the Philosophy of Business. A veteran, licensed attorney, and recipient of multiple advanced degrees, Dr. Abbey marks the seventh Lundy Chair in the institution’s history.

“I am excited and honored to hold the position of the Lundy Chair and join Campbell University,” said Dr. Abbey. “I hope my enthusiasm and experience will inspire students in the School of Business, and throughout the entire University, to engage in civic entrepreneurial activities.”

Dr. Abbey arrives at Campbell Business following a stay at Fayetteville State University as a professor in the MBA program. His research interests include currency traders, trade systems, and alternative investments. He has published in top finance journals including the Journal of Portfolio Management and the Journal of International Money and Finance, as well as practitioner journals including the Journal of Financial Service Professionals. Dr. Abbey is also a licensed attorney in North Carolina and passionately provides pro-bono business consulting and legal services to non-profit organizations and aspiring entrepreneurs. He is an active business consultant in the medical field and has worked with pediatric practices, physical therapists, and cosmetic surgeons for more than a decade.

Born in Bangor, Maine, Dr. Abbey is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and Army. He possesses a B.S. in Business Administration from Fayetteville State University (2003), a Master’s in Business Administration from Fayetteville State University (2004), a Juris Doctor from Campbell Law School (2007), and a Ph.D. in Finance from Old Dominion University (2011).

“Campbell Business is excited to welcome Dr. Abbey,” said Campbell Business Dean Keith Faulkner. “His breadth of experiences will add greatly to the value of the Lundy Chair for our students. Dr. Abbey has contagious enthusiasm and novel ideas to employ as the new chair. He is poised to explore new ideas in the realm of entrepreneurship and many other areas that will strengthen the School of Business’ undergraduate and graduate programs.”

Endowed in 1975 by Burrows T. Lundy, founder of the Lundy Packing Company in Clinton, North Carolina, the Lundy Chair was one of the first endowed chairs established in the United States to promote a greater understanding of free market capitalism. Today it is hailed as a forerunner of the growing libertarian movement.

Charged with promoting the principles of free enterprise, capitalism, individual liberty, and the proper role of the government's involvement in the economy to our students and our community, the Lundy Chair develops and teaches the Philosophy of Business course and serves as the nexus linking students, the university, and the local community in pursuing civic entrepreneurial activities. The Lundy Chair also bridges the gap between philosophy and reality by supervising the development and implementation of innovative and socially responsible business ideas created by students, Campbell University, and area residents.
