Dr. Andrew Muzyk, associate professor of Pharmacy Practice, received the 2022 CPHS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Pamela U. Joyner, interim chair of Pharmacy Practice, and Dr. Connie Lee Barnes, executive vice-chair and professor of Pharmacy Practice, nominated Dr. Muzyk for this award.
According to Joyner and Barnes, Muzyk lectures in numerous Campbell courses and is a preceptor for fourth year pharmacy students at Duke University Hospital. He serves alongside the Internal Medicine/Psychiatry team at Duke and teaches for the Duke Physician Assistant program, Nursing program, and School of Medicine. Students have described him as “enthusiastic, passionate, and knowledgeable.” He leaves a lasting impact on those he encounters and “is an extraordinary teacher and outstanding role model to faculty and students alike,” Barnes and Joyner elaborated.
Muzyk is a devoted educator who has gained local and national recognition as an expert in psychiatric pharmacotherapy. His enthusiasm for teaching has made him a phenomenal resource for students. Students shared that he was approachable and presented relevant material in a comprehensible manner. His courses and teaching style are always a student favorite.
“It is an honor to receive the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching award. I take great pride in teaching our CPHS students and put a tremendous amount of effort into all that I do for them. I am so grateful for this recognition,” Muzyk shared.
CPHS Dean, Michael L. Adams (’96 PharmD, PhD), expressed, “Dr. Muzyk is an extraordinary teacher and an outstanding role model to faculty and students. He has demonstrated a successful academic teaching career as noted by his numerous accomplishments. He is an exemplary example of the qualities recognized by the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.”
