Dr. Nicholas Pennings, Director of the Health Center at Campbell University and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine, was recently elected to the Board of Trustees for the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP).
ASBP is the leading association for physicians and other healthcare providers dedicated to the comprehensive medical treatment of patients affected by obesity and associated conditions. Dr. Pennings, like many member physicians, holds certification from the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
ASBP is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education (CME) to physicians and health care providers. Through its CME programs, ASBP educates clinicians about the latest obesity treatment approaches, pharmacotherapies, and technologies, as well as any emerging scientific research in the field.
As an American Society of Bariatric Physicians trustee, Dr. Pennings is a member of the Board who oversees the executive team for ASBP. “My focus on the Board will on obesity education,” said Dr. Pennings. “I will be working on programs to increase obesity education for primary care physicians. I would like to help the organization develop more online education content and prepare obesity education programs to be incorporated into primary care conferences.”
As Director of the University Health Center, Dr. Pennings has assisted the Campbell community in loosing over 1,000 pounds this year with the “CU Lose Weight Program”. Dr. Pennings will begin his term of service on the ASBP Board of Trustees in October 2015.
