BUIES CREEK, North Carolina – Dr. Robert D. Billinger, professor emeritus of history at Wingate University, will deliver the Phi Kappa Phi/ Pi Gamma Mu Fall Humanities Council Lecture at Campbell University Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
His talk will be on “Nazi POWs in the Tar Heel State, 1942-1946,” and will be held in the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business’ Lynch Auditorium. The lecture is open to the campus community and public.
Billinger taught at Wingate University from 1979 to 2014. A Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, native, he completed his undergraduate degrees at Lehigh University and graduate degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also was a Fulbright Graduate Scholar to Vienna, Austria.
He is the author of three books, including two concerning German POWs in the U.S. during World War II: “Hitler’s Soldiers in the Sunshine State: German POWs in Florida” (University Press of Florida, 2000) and “Nazi POWs in the Tar Heel State” (University Press of Florida, 2008).
The lecture is sponsored by the Pi Gamma Mu/Phi Kappa Phi honor societies and the N.C. Humanities Council, and hosted by the Department of History, Criminal Justice, and Political Science.
