BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell Business Associate Professor of Economics Dr. Mark Steckbeck was recently honored with the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Steckbeck received the award at a university banquet on May 4 at Gore Arena.

In presenting the award, Campbell Business Dean Dr. Kevin J. O’Mara cited the Dr. Steckbeck’s engagement with students inside and outside the classroom, encouraging students to own their own education and working with students to prepare them for their future careers and lives.

“I greatly appreciate Dean O’Mara recognizing me for this award,” said Dr. Steckbeck. “It’s an honor just to receive it, made even more so given it was his first year as dean of the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business.”

This past February, Dr. Steckbeck served as a panelist for Business North Carolina’s annual economic roundtable. In November of last year he hosted a colloquium on Scottish Enlightenment philosophers David Hume and Adam Smith at Campbell Business.

Dr. Steckbeck teaches courses in economics and business. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Technology from Appalachian State University, and an M.A. in Economics from George Mason University. In 2004, he earned his Ph.D. in Economics, also from George Mason University.

Prior to joining the Campbell community, Dr. Steckbeck worked as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Hillsdale College in Michigan, and as a Lecturer at George Mason University. In addition to his work that was published in the book Information and Communication: Austrian Perspectives on the Internet Economy, he has written numerous editorials and book reviews, and has been a presenter, discussant, and attendee of many conferences and seminars, including the Western Economic Association, and the Southern Economic Association, and the Association of Private Enterprise Education.
