Dr. Steckbeck, students attend Emerging Issues Forum

Campbell University 2016 Winter Commencement

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell Business Professor Dr. Mark Steckbeck and four students recently attended the 30th-annual Emerging Issues Institute at the Raleigh Convention Center. The event brings together students, academics, business leaders, and politicians to listen to speakers and participate in collaborative brainstorming sessions over a two day period.

Campbell Business students Zackary Cline, Carson Futch, Hannah Huston, and Anna Muesing accompanied Dr. Steckbeck to the event.

Using the theme Innovation Reconstructed, the forum examined why success depends on innovation, and how innovation now requires designing for a loss of control. The program featured a special emphasis on what North Carolina must do to reposition itself as a leader in entrepreneurship, attracting capital, and becoming a top destination for startups and business organizations.

Dr. Steckbeck and the students heard from an assortment of successful business executives and leaders, including North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, Jim Goodnight (SAS), Ray Kurweil (Google) and Don Tapscott (author). Presentations touched on technological advances, innovation in North Carolina, policies that hinder growth, financing innovation, and new delivery models for higher education.

“This event stressed why engaging more entrepreneurially in all of our endeavors is essential for today's business environment, something I have been stressing with students for years now,” said Dr. Steckbeck. “It also reinforces the importance of the changes that have occurred here at Campbell Business School over the past year.”
