Founding Engineering Dean Jenna Carpenter is a member of Leadership North Carolina Class XXV, one of 55 state leaders chosen for this year’s program.
“These individuals represent the state’s business, government, education and nonprofit sectors and reflect the diversity of the state from the mountains to the coast,” the program stated in its roster announcement this week. “They were selected from a competitive applicant pool based on their personal and professional accomplishments and their commitment to the state of North Carolina.”
Carpenter joined Campbell to head its new School of Engineering in 2015. Her research focuses on innovative STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) curricula and the success of women in STEM. She has received more than $2.5 million in federal funding and authored more than 130 publications and presentations. She has also become a national expert on innovative STEM education and supporting the success of women in STEM fields, speaking regularly across the country on these issues.
She said Monday she was honored to be part of the Leadership North Carolina program.
“It will provide me with a solid understanding of key issues impacting the state,” Carpenter said, “as well as a great network of potential collaborators that will help Campbell Engineering partner to address some of the needs.”
Over the next eight months, the Leadership North Carolina group will meet in locations across the state for sessions that include presentations, simulations, tours, experiential learning activities and dialogue. They will learn about the challenges and opportunities facing North Carolina in the areas of government, economic development, education, the environment, and health and human services.
