‘Epic Music’ concert part of packed April Fine Arts schedule

A night of “epic music” is just one of the highlights of a packed April schedule for Campbell University’s Fine Arts department.

On April 9, Campbell will present the 23rd annual Wind Ensemble and Symphony Pops Concert, titled EPIC MUSIC. The concert is set for 7 p.m. at the Hobson Performance Center in D. Rich. According to Dr. Dwayne Wilson, Chair of the Division of Fine Arts, the night will feature epic scores from some of history’s top box office movies, best-selling books, most popular video games and biggest Broadway hits.

“All the music will be powerful, memorable, theatrical and exciting for all,” Wilson said. “We like to think of it as a ‘panoramic music experience.”

Music will include pieces from Lord of the Rings, Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Frozen, Halo and more.

Wilson will serve as lead conductor for the show, joined by Dr. Michael Phillips, director of athletic bands, and Dr. William Beach, adjunct professor of low brass at Campbell.

April will also see the return of the Front Porch Music @ The FAB concert, set for 6 p.m. on April 19 on the front steps of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Building. Campbell’s Opera Theatre will join Campbell Voices for the outdoor evening show.

The theater department will present “The Giver,” adapted by Eric Coble, at Ellis Theater April 18-21. Adapted from the Newbery Award-winning book by Lois Lowry, the play followed a young boy named Jonas who learns the truth about life and hypocrisy in a utopian world.

Tickets for “The Giver” are available at sellingticket.com/CUFineArts.
