From meeting up with old friends and revisiting by-gone experiences to cheering on the Fighting Camels Football players, the 2009 Campbell Homecoming, Oct. 23-24, promises to be fun-filled and exciting event.
On Friday, Oct. 23, the ball gets rolling with campus tours at 2 p.m. and the Distinguished Alumni Dinner at 6 p.m. Then at 7 p.m., enjoy Campbell v. Kennesaw State volleyball. At 8 p.m. in Ellis Theatre, the curtain goes up on a special performance of “The Cotton Patch Gospel,” a musical adaptation of Clarence Jordan’s “Cotton Patch” translation of the Gospel of Matthew.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, and is followed by the Family and Consumer Science Reunion at 9 a.m. and the Golden Club reunion at 9:30 a.m. The tail gating area at Barker- Lane Stadium also opens up for pre-game fellowship at 9 a.m.
The traditional Homecoming Parade departs from the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center at 10 a.m. and travels down Leslie Campbell Avenue to the John W. Pope Convocation Center. A delicious pre-game barbeque featuring a faculty meet and greet will be held at Sauls Hall Murray Courtyard at 11 a.m.
Fresh from their win against Methodist University, the Fighting Camels football team takes on the Butler University Bulldogs at the newly-dedicated Ed Gore Field in Barker-Lane Stadium at 1 p.m. Later, that evening, Campbell’s volleyball team goes up against Mercer University in at the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center. An encore performance of “The Cotton Patch Gospel” is also scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. in Ellis Theatre.
Pre-weekend student activities include a bonfire and pep rally, indoor skydiving, a performance by comedian Tracey Ashley and bull ride and rock climbing events to name a few.
