Finance students get real-world real estate experience

Students in the real estate finance course at the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business got hands-on experience in the Lillington real estate market this month. Four undergraduate finance majors in professor Patrick Larkin’s Finance 436 class collaborated with a local realtor to tour and evaluate a nearby property.

The students explored a home located across from campus near Buies Creek Elementary School and are completing an assignment in which they determine the home’s investment value and estimate the rate of return that that the property could generate as as rental property.

Natalie Turner, an associate at RE/Max Signature Realty in Lillington, donated her time to show students the property and answer numerous questions about the assignment.

“In the finance program, we are always looking for opportunities to undertake real world projects,” said Larkin. “This experience will help students to apply the knowledge and competencies that they acquire in the classroom.”
