Ben Severin, associate director of Financial Aid, thought he was walking into a routine meeting inside the McLeod Admissions & Financial Aid Center. Instead, he was greeted by the entire staff, Gaylord the Camel, and Campbell University President William Downs, who surprised him with the Cherished Camel Award.
A new father, Severin was recognized for his quiet but impactful leadership in Financial Aid. His stunned expression quickly turned into a smile as colleagues applauded his efforts.
“Ben has shouldered much of the burden in Financial Aid the last 10 months,” notes Bill Hall, who nominated Severin for the award. “His positive attitude is refreshing, and has helped sustain morale for other colleagues.”
The Cherished Camel Award regularly honors Campbell staff for exceptional performance, daily dedication, and initiative. Each recipient receives a $100 gift card, a certificate, and perhaps most importantly, campus-wide recognition for their contributions.
The admissions and financial aid team capped off the moment with a group photo, celebrating the camaraderie and excitement surrounding Severin’s recognition.
“Ben truly embodies the spirit of service that Campbell seeks as a model for all members of the university community,” Hall added.
All current full-time and part-time Campbell employees with non-faculty appointments and who have worked at Campbell for at least one year are eligible for the Cherished Camel Award. Nominations for future recipients can be made here.
