Buies Creek, N.C.-The works of four Campbell University graduating seniors are currently on display in the E.P. Sauls Gallery of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. The Senior Art Exhibit will run through May 15. Admission is free and open to the public.
Graphic Design majors Joseph Foster, Tracie Eubank, Courtney Cissel and Rich Apolinar approach their work from several different angles.
Foster, from Jacksonville, N.C., said his is a purely emotional approach. “The worlds and things I’ve expressed here were done with every ounce of what I would identify as my very being and the life that exists within,” Foster said. “Nobody but me is doing my art work.”
Foster added that he doesn’t like structure and grids in art. “Too often artists lose that childlike and expressive nature that sparked their artistic interest in the first place and instead draw or paint in a way that appears to be almost forced by some invisible stand of critics,” he said.
On the other hand, Mebane, N.C. native Eubank’s approach to her work is very subdued. “My paintings tend to be on the peaceful and relaxing side to escape from the chaos of everyday life,” Eubank said. “With even the slightest amount of color and/or texture of a brushstroke, a painting can completely change the entire mood of a room.”
Eubank said she loves realistic drawings and would like to take up photography some day.
The work of Courtney Cissel, of Raleigh, reflects her approach to life. “As a student at Wake Technical Community College, I plunged right into two college-level studio art classes my first semester,” she said. “Studio Art has been a real treat, providing such an opportunity to experiment and grow.”
Located on the first floor of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center, the E.P. Sauls Gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
