Buies Creek – Charles F. Freeman received the honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Campbell University on Saturday, Dec. 12. Freeman accepted the award at Campbell’s winter commencement ceremony held in the university’s John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center.
Freeman is president and chairman of the Felburn Foundation in Loris, South Carolina. The foundation is a philanthropic organization that has made substantial contributions to libraries and other causes both local and national, including Campbell University.
Campbell president Jerry Wallace commended Freeman for his dedication and commitment to education. “Servant leaders are not only caregivers for their community, but humble stewards of the resources granted them,” said Wallace. “Those principles are found nowhere more clearly than in the life of Charles F. Freeman.”
A 1960 graduate of Furman University, Freeman has been honored for his numerous community contributions. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Loris Chamber of Commerce and was included in Cambridge’s Who’s Who Executive and Professional Registry. He is an active member of the Loris First Baptist Church, as was his late wife Lottie. He is a member of Campbell University’s Presidential Board of Advisors.
A total of 327 degrees were conferred for Campbell’s winter graduation, including 278 undergraduate degrees and 49 graduate degrees.
