Full schedule of Campbell University commencement ceremonies

For the 137th time, Campbell University will celebrate spring graduates with a series of commencement ceremonies this week, starting Thursday with the seventh graduating class of medical school students and ending Saturday with two ceremonies at the J0hn W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center. 

The full slate of ceremonies is listed below, with times, locations and scheduled speakers. No tickets will be required for any of the events, and those who cannot attend can watch a live stream of each ceremony here: https://livestream.com/accounts/3736866


Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine

(Includes all graduate candidates with the medical school)

  • Date: Thursday, May 11
  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Location: John W. Pope Convocation Center, Buies Creek
  • What to know: Thursday will mark the graduation of the 1,000th doctor for the School of Medicine since it launched in 2013. 
  • Speaker: Dr. Melissa Stout Davies, obstetrician and gynecologist with Eagle Physicians & Associates PA and a graduate of the first class of doctors for the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017. 

ROTC Pinning Ceremony
  • Date: Friday, May 12
  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Location: Hobson Performance Arts Center, D. Rich Building, Buies Creek
  • What to know: Before ROTC students earn their respective degrees, they are commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants in the U.S. Army in a pinning ceremony attended by family, friends and mentors.
  • Speaker: Gen. (Ret.) Stephen J. Townsend, former commander of the United State Africa Command. 

Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law

(Includes all Law Graduate Candidates)

  • Date: Friday, May 12, 2023
  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Location: Dorton Arena in Raleigh

  • Speaker: For the second time in four years, North Carolina First Lady and 1983 Campbell Law graduate Kristen Cooper will deliver the commencement address.

College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences

(Includes all Undergraduate and Graduate Candidates in the CPHS. Undergraduate programs that participate in this ceremony are Clinical Research, Pharmaceutical Science and Nursing.)

  • Speaker: Rose Hoban, RN, MPH, is editor of North Carolina Health News and recipient of several state and national journalism awards, including the Alfred I. duPont–Columbia University Award and the Edward R. Murrow Award.

Divinity School

(Includes all Divinity School candidates)

  • Date: Friday, May 12
  • Time: 7 p.m.
  • Location: Hobson’s Performing Arts Center, Buies Creek
  • Speaker: The Rev. Jayne Hugo Davis, associate pastor for discipleship at First Baptist Church in Wilmington and a 2004 Campbell Master of Divinity graduate

(Includes Main Campus & AOE, Undergraduate and Graduate Candidates)

  • Date: Saturday, May 13
  • Time: 9 a.m. ceremony begins. Students are to arrive no later than 8 a.m. in McCall Court in the back of the Convocation Center.
  • Location: John W. Pope Convocation Center, Buies Creek
  • What to know: Graduation returns indoors on a Saturday for the first time since before the pandemic. No tickets are required for either of Saturday’s events.
  • Speaker: Gene Lewis III, senior vice president of wealth management for UBS Financial Services. Lewis became a Campbell University trustee in 2019 and was named chair of the Board of Trustees in 2023. 

The College of Arts and Sciences

(Includes Main Campus & AOE, Undergraduate Candidates)

  • Date: Saturday, May 13
  • Time: 2 p.m. ceremony begins. Students are to arrive no later than 1 p.m. in McCall Court in the back of the Convocation Center.
  • Location: John W. Pope Convocation Center, Buies Creek
  • Speaker: Gene Lewis III, senior vice president of wealth management for UBS Financial Services. Lewis became a Campbell University trustee in 2019 and was named chair of the Board of Trustees in 2023.
