RALEIGH, N.C. –Campbell Law School third-year students Ben Greenberg and Amanda Hannon posted a sensational finish over the weekend at the American Bar Association Law Student Division Client Counseling National Finals in Durham, N.C., hosted by the North Carolina Central University School of Law. Greenberg and Hannon ultimately placed sixth overall out of a field of more than 140 teams.
The duo’s showing at the national finals comes after they collected a regional championship in late February.
Coached by Campbell Law Professor Dick Bowser, Greenberg and Hannon began competing against the other eleven regional winners this past Friday. Following three preliminary rounds, the pair was one of six teams to advance to the semifinals. They were paired against the top seed in the semifinal round, to which they ultimately fell by the narrowest of margins.
“Ben and Amanda have from the beginning of our intramural competition through the national finals demonstrated knowledge, wisdom, poise and professionalism” said Bowser. “They have represented themselves and Campbell Law exceptionally well, and we are rightfully proud of them. I have every reason to believe that they will serve their clients and communities well in their careers as lawyers, and that we will be proud of them for years to come.”
The competition simulates an initial law office consultation in which the competitors are presented with a client that has a legal concern. This year the legal issues involved potential issues in the context of K-12 education. All competitors are evaluated by lawyers, judges, and counseling professionals on their ability to identify the legal issues, counsel the clients, and handle skillfully and appropriately any ethical concerns that may be raised by the facts involved.
