Buies Creek, N.C.- Patricia H. Greene, of Buies Creek, N.C., is the recipient of Campbell University’s 2009 Algernon Sydney Sullivan award. A religion major, Greene was presented the award at the university’s spring commencement ceremony on Saturday May 9, at the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
A prominent late 19th century New York attorney, Algernon Sydney Sullivan was known for being a devout Christian, effective mediator, compelling orator and noted philanthropist. The award, made possible by the Sullivan Foundation, honors those individuals whose strength of character and civic contributions reflect the life of Algernon Sydney Sullivan.
While maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average all four years at Campbell, Greene also found time to work, participate in extracurricular activities and be an active member of her church. She holds memberships in four academic honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa (president), Theta Alpha Kappa and Phi Eta Sigma, and was named to “Who’s Who among American Universities and Colleges.” Greene also served as president of the Campbell University Religion Club and as a member of the Baptist Student Union, the Lion’s Club and Key Club. In addition, she participated in several intramural sports, including softball, volleyball and basketball. As a student worker, Greene held many jobs on campus and volunteered for several organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Operation Christmas Child and the Divinity School’s Hispanic Theological Education childcare program.
Greene is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Dwaine Greene of Buies Creek, N.C.
Over 600 undergraduate students and graduate students from the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business and the School of Education received their degrees on Saturday. Separate hooding and graduation ceremonies for Campbell’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, School of Pharmacy and the Divinity School were held on Friday, May 8, conferring an additional 228 graduate and professional degrees.
