Harnett Choral Director honored by Campbell

Buies Creek, N.C.—Susan Leslie Morrow, of Angier, N.C., received Campbell University’s School of Education Graduate of the Last Decade Alumna award at the school’s convocation ceremony held Friday, Feb. 11. Morrow is the Choral Director at Harnett Central Middle School.

The wife of Campbell University Choral Director Dr. Phillip Morrow, Susan Morrow holds two degrees from Campbell, a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Education in elementary education with certification in gifted education.

A veteran educator, Morrow has served on the faculties of four Harnett County schools in both elementary and middle grade levels. In 2009, she received National Board Certification in Music. Morrow has also served as chair of the Fine Arts Department of Harnett Central Middle School and liaison between the Harnett County Schools and Campbell University for musical events, including the annual Harnett County Honors Choir Day. With her husband Phillip, Morrow helped establish the Campbell Children’s Choir Camp, an annual event providing accelerated musical experiences for students in Harnett County. The camp just completed its 11th year of operation.

In addition, Morrow has been a featured soloist throughout the Southeast in venues ranging from oratorio to recital and musical theatre and a conductor and clinician, whose work with children’s voices has been recognized for musical excellence.

The Morrows are also involved in music ministry and are currently staff ministers at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek. In the community, she is active in arts organizations, including the Harnett County Arts Council and the Cape Fear Friends of the Fine Arts.

The School of Education’s annual convocation service recognizes both new and transitioning students, alumni and friends of Campbell University who have made outstanding contributions to the school.

Morrow was presented the award by Dr. Benjamin Greene, assistant professor of education.
