Health Center Announces “CU Lose Weight” Is a Success

While you hear the phase “the Creek is rising” around Campbell University, the waist line of Campbell faculty and staff is shrinking.  As of June 30th, Campbell University Health Center’s Weight Loss Program has helped 29 members of the Campbell community lose a total of 1141 lbs!
The program, “CU Lose Weight”, was started by Nicholas J. Pennings, DO in 2014.  Dr. Pennings is the Director of the Campbell University Health Center and an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine.  He is board certified in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine and was recently elected to the American Society of Bariatric Physicians Board of Trustees.
“Studies show that losing just 5% of your body weight can help to improve your health,” reports Pennings.  “For Campbell University, helping its employees and staff obtain better health is a win/win for everyone.  Healthy employees benefit the University through lower health care costs and improved productivity.   For the employee, losing weight and potentially reducing or eliminating medications can improve their long-term health and quality of life.”
“What inspires me about this program is that the benefits go beyond weight loss,” says Pennings. “Obesity triggers so many health complications like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer.  Developing new healthy lifestyle habits help people regain health and can lessen the need for medications. Preventative care such as maintaining a healthy weight is a key component of osteopathic medical care.”
Dr. Pennings holds monthly meetings on the Campbell University campus to introduce the program to employees of Campbell and to the outside community.  To learn more about Dr. Pennings and the weight loss program at Campbell University Health Center go to CULoseWeight.tsfl.com or make an appointment to see Dr. Pennings by calling the health center at 910- 893-1560.
