Healthy Camels Caravan participants set walking milestone

The first ever Healthy Camels Caravan was celebrated as a huge success at a luncheon held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. 105 Campbell University faculty and staff members participated in the eight week walking contest, completing a total of 2,347 hours. Each team could have up to four members. Participants were required to update weekly logs for each team member’s activity between Sept. 23 and Nov. 16.Dr. Larry Swanson, of the Campbell Wellness Committee, spoke of his own success story with the walking program. He said he suffered from leg pain, while using elliptical machines for exercise. Upon starting the Camel Caravan program, he said, “My walking muscles kicked in. I don’t have any leg pain any more. It’s really benefited me.” A trophy was awarded to the overall top walking team, the Carrie Rich Powder Puffs, who walked a total of 288.83 hours over the eight week period.
