Buies Creek, N.C. – From March 29 to April 1, Butler Chapel will be the center of Holy Week events at Campbell University, featuring opportunities for worship and meditation.
The main feature is Stations of the Cross, an experience that provides an opportunity for prayer and meditation as participants walk through a collection of images portraying the events in Jesus’ final hours.
“Often, as Christians we are too quick to move to the Resurrection and don’t allow time to truly meditate on Jesus’ journey to the cross,” said Campus Minister Faithe Beam. “Stations of the Cross allows us to retrace the final steps of Christ from his arrest, to his trial, to his crucifixion, and to his burial and contemplate the incredible sacrifice made for us.”
Beam hopes the opportunity will also instill a new appreciation in participants. “Hopefully, our willingness to walk along this journey will give us an even greater joy for the Resurrection,” she said.
Open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., participants walk through the presentation at their own pace. A written guide with information about Stations of the Cross, including a history of the Stations and directions for each station, such as scriptural passage for meditation, is available.
“We wanted to offer creative ways for the University community to experience Jesus’ journey to the cross during Holy Week. The Stations of the Cross was a natural way for our community to meditate and reflect on the days leading up to the death of Jesus Christ,” said Beam.
Additionally, members of the University community are invited to attend Divinity School worship at 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30 and Thursday, April 1, also in Butler Chapel.
Both events are offered by the Divinity School and Office of the Campus Minister.
