HPREP 2026 prepares future healthcare leaders

The Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS) and the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine welcomed 50 aspiring healthcare professionals from across the country from June 7 – 11 for the Ransdell Family Health Professions Readiness & Enrichment Program (HPREP), an immersive experience designed to prepare participants for graduate and professional education while introducing them to the value of interprofessional collaboration.

CPHS extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Bobby Ransdell and the Ransdell family for their generous support of the Ransdell Family Health Professions Readiness & Enrichment Program. Their investment continues to provide aspiring healthcare professionals with meaningful opportunities to explore healthcare careers, develop professionally and gain experiences that will shape the future of patient care.

HPREP is an interdisciplinary, preparatory and professional development program that helps participants explore healthcare career options while becoming more competitive applicants for graduate and professional programs. Throughout the week, participants engage in interactive laboratories, workshops and seminars, connect with healthcare professionals and faculty, receive guidance and mentorship from current Campbell healthcare students serving as HPREP mentors, develop leadership and professional skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the collaborative nature of today’s healthcare system.

The program also introduced students to the Campbell family and the University’s commitment to preparing healthcare professionals who lead with purpose, compassion and service.

This year’s participants represented seven states: North Carolina, Virginia, Kansas, Georgia, Illinois, South Carolina and California. They also represented 22 colleges and universities.

Throughout the week, participants explored the many facets of healthcare through hands-on learning experiences across CPHS and the Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine. Activities included patient simulation experiences in nursing, physician assistant practice and physical therapy; pharmaceutical compounding and tablet manufacturing in the Pharmaceutical Education & Research Center; clinical research and public health activities; admissions and career development sessions; professional networking opportunities; and discussions with faculty, student mentors, HPREP and CPHS alumni, and healthcare professionals. Meals and snacks provided throughout the week also fostered friendships, encouraged collaboration, and allowed participants to build lasting relationships with peers who share a passion for healthcare.

“It was a pleasure to welcome this outstanding group of future healthcare professionals to Campbell University,” said Maggie Pasnak, HPREP coordinator. “Watching participants immerse themselves in hands-on learning, build meaningful relationships with faculty and mentors, and explore our exceptional healthcare programs was incredibly rewarding. We hope they left campus with a greater understanding of the many pathways available to them and feeling inspired and confident as they continue their journey toward careers in healthcare.”

During the program, participants gained firsthand exposure to Campbell’s healthcare programs, including pharmacy, physician assistant practice, physical therapy, nursing, public health, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical research and osteopathic medicine. By learning alongside faculty, current students and healthcare professionals, participants experienced the collaborative, patient-centered approach that prepares Campbell graduates to serve as members of today’s interprofessional healthcare teams.

HPREP reflects Campbell University’s commitment to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals through collaboration, innovation and service. By introducing students to a variety of healthcare disciplines while emphasizing interprofessional education, the program helps future providers understand the importance of teamwork in improving patient outcomes.

As participants concluded the week, they departed with expanded knowledge of healthcare careers, stronger professional networks, meaningful friendships and a greater appreciation for collaborative patient care. Many also left with a clearer vision of their future and a firsthand look at the educational opportunities available through the Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine.
