With sympathy and sadness, Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences announces the passing of Dr. Thomas Abraham, PhD, associate professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, on April 16, 2017.
He received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Mars Hill College and a PhD in biomedical sciences/pharmacology from East Tennessee State University. He joined the CPHS faculty in 2000. His research interests included the molecular determinants of skeletal muscle differentiation especially with respect to calcium-dependent signaling. Additional interests included molecular mechanisms by which calcium mediated specific cellular processes via specific calcium-activated enzymes.
Dr. Abraham was a very caring person who showed great compassion to others facing cancer treatment or who had serious health problems. His door was always open to them. During his illness, he continued to have a sense of humor and would make people at ease. He will be remembered for his strength of character and his unfailing love of the Lord.
A member of Triangle Community Church in Apex, he is survived by his parents and his wife, Theresa; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Laura Abraham; daughter and son-in-law, Alyssa and Frank Taylor; sons Jacob and Ben Abraham, and two grandchildren.
A funeral service for Dr. Abraham will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. at Triangle Community Church, 4216 Kildare Farm Rd, Apex, NC 27539. The family will receive friends at the church that day from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences will hold a memorial service for Dr. Abraham and Dr. Bob Garrett on Tuesday, April 25 at 2 p.m. in Butler Chapel on the university’s main campus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Thomas Abraham Endowed Pharmacy Scholarship Fund at Campbell University. Once endowed, this scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving pharmacy student.
