International security expert headlines SGA Academic Lecture Series 3/26

BUIES CREEK — Matthew G. Devost, a technology entrepreneur and international security expert, will deliver the keynote address at Campbell University’s 6th Annual Student Government Association Academic Lecture Series on Wednesday, March 26, at 4 p.m. in Turner Auditorium. The event is open to the public.

Devost is the president and CEO of FusionX, a global cybersecurity, technology and risk management solutions company that helps clients identify and manage dynamic cyber threats in complex operational environments. He specializes in cybersecurity, counterterrorism, critical infrastructure protection, intelligence and risk management issues.

Additionally, Devost holds an appointment as a special government advisor and counsels U.S. Department of Defense leadership on a variety of security issues. He also serves as a senior advisor to CrucialPoint, is a founding director of the Cyberconflict Studies Association, has been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University since 2002, and is a member of the Black Hat advisory board, which helps shape the agenda for a series of world-class information security conferences.

Considered an expert on terrorism and cybersecurity, he has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews, NPR, CBS News, BBC, NWCN and dozens of other domestic and international radio and TV networks. He has lectured or published for the National Defense University, the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement communities, and the Swedish, Australian and New Zealand governments, and at Georgetown University, American University and George Washington University. He has spoken at more than 200 international conferences.

Devost earned his bachelor’s from St. Michael’s College and a master’s in political science from the University of Vermont. He founded the Terrorism Research Center, Inc., in 1996, and served there as president and CEO until November 2008.

For the past five years, Campbell’s Student Government Association and the Public Affairs Club have coordinated an annual lecture series that brings in scholars from across the country to promote the intellectual exploration of important public affairs topics and foster continuing discussion and debate. Past speakers have presented on demographic changes in the U.S., health care reform, and democratic power and communication. At the 6th annual lecture series, Devost will speak on “The State of Cyber Security and Cyber Conflict.”
