Jack G. Watts, former trustee & CPHS founding committee member, dies

BUIES CREEK, North Carolina – With sympathy and sadness, Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences announces the passing of Jack G. Watts, DSc, founding committee member of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy, on Jan. 9, 2016.

Watts was a lifelong friend of Campbell University and the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. He served on the university’s Board of Trustees as well as the Pharmacy Dean’s Board of Advisors, and was inducted into the CPHS Alumni Association as an Honorary Lifetime Member in 2009.

Watts is best known in Buies Creek for encouraging the first 25 classes of pharmacy students to “get involved” during the annual convocation ceremonies. His speeches changed from year to year, but his question of “Is anyone from Tabor City?” and the passion to encourage students to make a difference in the pharmacy profession remained the same. His message of getting involved has been passed down to current students through speeches and lectures given by Campbell pharmacy alumni in recent years.

Watts is survived by his wife, Eloise, and his two children, Glenn and Elizabeth. He will forever be remembered as one of the most important individuals who impacted the development, growth, and success of Campbell’s pharmacy program.

A celebration of Watt’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Burlington, NC. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jack G. & Eloise H. Watts School of Pharmacy Scholarships by contacting the CPHS Office of Alumni Relations & Advancement at 910-893-1837, P.O. Box 1090, Buies Creek, NC 27506.
